Side Notes by Barbara

Between running the Barranada business and being by Gene's side every step of the way during his cancer journey, Barbara's plate is full. However, she still finds time to discover new things (wine) and enjoy favorite pastimes (reading). Here she shares some "side notes" on what she's been up to:

WINE
July 27, 2012
I have decided that I might need to start a new blog on "Wine Tasting"!

A little history here: I have always been a beer drinker, but some very good friends (they will remain nameless to protect the innocent) are teaching me about different wines. It has been a fun experience.

Now on my bucket list is to go to Sonoma Valley to the wineries.

The first week, let's start with a great Chardonnay: Francis Coppola, Diamond Collection, 2010 Black Label Pavilion Chardonnay (California). Remember, I am high-maintenance so it is not a cheap wine but is fabulous.

A good friend of mine, Nicole, said to remember there are only four glasses of wine per bottle. So savoring it for several days at this point does not make me a wino!

Seriously though, I would love to know your wine favorites. Right now, I am just tasting white wines – have not acquired a taste for the reds. Please share your suggestions in the comments!

BOOKS

I am also liking a new series of books – a novel by Carolly Erickson – I just finished The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette. She has several other non-fiction books! I think you will enjoy her.

I am always looking for good mystery books – particularly about women – and not too gory. Please share your suggestions in the comments section!
